PARASITE PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Parasites are a nuisance and can be detrimental to our pets' health.

  • Ticks can transmit infections such as Lyme disease, which can have lasting effects on joint health.

  • Fleas can transmit tapeworms and Bartonella – the bacteria that causes “cat-scratch fever” in humans.

  • Heartworms, which are transmitted by mosquitoes, live in your pet’s lungs and heart. This causes significant damage to these organs, and sometimes even death.

  • Intestinal parasites, such as roundworms and hookworms, can cause diarrhea and are transmissible to humans.

In some cases, it can be difficult to tell if your pet has parasites. Fleas can hide under your pet’s fur, and some ticks are the size of a pinhead. Although intestinal parasites often cause diarrhea, many infected pets don’t show any symptoms. This is why yearly fecal tests are important, especially for pets who go outside and are exposed to parasites in the environment.

Our knowledgeable staff will provide you with a comprehensive parasite control program, whether that includes treatment options for active infection or recommendations for preventing parasites year-round.

Parasites are not just a nuisance. They can carry serious diseases that affect your pet’s overall health and longevity. Preventing parasites in your pets also helps protect children and other family members. Call to schedule an appointment for your pet today!
